Stoupa Beeches Travelling to Stoupa Stoupa Excursions Greek Cuisine
Stoupa Beeches
In Stoupa itself, there are three clean sandy beaches with safe bathing for youngsters.
The main Stoupa Beach has a friendly feel to it, with the tavernas and gift shops situated on the waterfront behind the beach. As the sun goes down you may well be rewarded with the sight of a kingfisher diving for his fish supper. The fish come close to the beach, and many visitors take great delight in feeding them with bread. We have free sun beds on this beach for our guests.
Halikora Beach is somewhat smaller, but boasts a paddling of ducks that swim in the sea. They are regularly fed and watered. It is from this beach that you can embark on boat excursions.
Kalogria Beach is a lively beach complete with volleyball net. This is where the author Nikos Kazantzakis met the character for his famous book Zorba the Greek! Zorba actually danced on Kalogria beach. Pedalos can be hired from this beach. There is a good choice of beach bars and tavernas.
The villages either side of Stoupa offer a contrast in Greek lifestyles. Towards Kalamata is Kardamili. The old town is worth a walk to, it is steeped in history. Plenty of tavernas, coffee shops, and gift shops to help you while away a morning. Or why not laze on the main beach. Ritsa Beach is a mixture of pebbles and coarse sand.
In the other direction lies Agios Nikolaos, a Greek fishing village where time has stood still. Well worth an early morning visit to watch the fishermen land their catch, and sell off the quay. Again, plenty of places to relax, with tavernas and coffee bars. To the south of the village is Pantazi Beach. A mixture of pebbles and course sand.
Other beaches that can be easily reached from Stoupa are:
Delfinia Beach is a mixture of pebbles and course sand. A 15 minute walk from Stoupa. Very quiet, but no café on the beach so take refreshments.
Foneas Beach a pebbly beach with steep cliffs at either end providing a lot of morning shade. Located between Stoupa and Kardamyli has a canteen selling food and drinks.
Santova Beach is a thin sandy beach just south of Kalamata and just before the village of Kitries. There is a café and taverna on the other side of the road.
